Welcome to Raise the Rooster, our good friend Larry Dean "Rooster" Brewer passed away Sept. 10, 2007 and it was a sad day for all of us. We had our first annual benefit concert series for Rooster in October 2007. Proceeds are funding a scholarship through the Morehead State University Foundation. This fund will provide scholarships for artists from the Appalachian Coal Basin, including Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee and Arkansas to attend Morehead State as undergraduates.
The first Raise the Rooster concert is officially in the books. What a reunion it was. Old friends and fellow musicians reuniting after about fifteen years coming together to celebrate the life of Rooster. It surely was an awesome weekend of reminiscing and music. God blessed us with two days of beautiful weather. Everyone who has played music with him had a Rooster to tell. Ron Bradley said it best when he said never in a hundred years would Rooster have dreamed that we would be something of this magnitude in his memory. It was a humbling experience to stand backstage and listen to all the stories about Rooster and what influence he had had on each of our lives. He will be sadly missed but, his memory will live on in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Through this scholarship fund he will continue to touch and make a difference in the lives of young men and women for years to come. Thanks to all the friends of Rooster for the vision and the sacrifices, and relentless hard work to make this event happen. GOD BLESS each and everyone of you. We are believing that this event will grow and become greater each year. Prayerfully, next year we will have the first recipient of the scholarship fund as our guest of honor. Planning has begun already for the 2008 Raisetherooster concert and pledge drive. So once again to all of the friends of rooster who helped make this event happen and those who participated, THANK YOU and may God keep you in his mercy and love.

Well here it is June 5, 2008..... Just want to say Happy Birthday to Rooster. I sure do miss my best friend and I think about him every day, as do so many others that knew him. I miss the phone calls. I miss the talks we had. I miss his smile. I miss him riding up on his motorcycle, he would come by to get me so we go for a ride down to the river. I've only ridden down to the river once since his passing. I was with Tammy and Kevin, it was a good ride. Rooster's bike was with us that day. Rooster was with us that day too. After we got to the river, we heard a rooster crowing and knew he was with us. I hadn't heard that rooster crowing there before that day. I plan on riding there again soon and I'll be wishing he was with me. I know he will be in spirit.
No news yet on this upcoming concerts..... still working on details. Will post here as soon as I know when, where and who'll be there.
